Description

Saskatoon Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) — cold-hardy native fruiting shrub with sweet blueberry-like berries, stunning spring blossoms, and brilliant fall foliage. Live well-rooted starter plant. USDA Zones 2-7.

Saskatoon Serviceberry is one of North America’s finest native fruit shrubs, valued for both its edible berries and exceptional four-season ornamental appeal. In spring, the multi-stemmed shrub is blanketed in clusters of delicate white flowers. By early summer, clusters of round, blue-purple berries ripen — sweeter and nuttier than blueberries — ideal for eating fresh, making jams, pies, and fruit wines. Fall color is brilliant red-orange. Mature height is typically 6–12 feet depending on conditions.

This is a rugged and adaptable plant that thrives in Zones 2-7, tolerates clay, sandy, or loamy soils, and grows in full sun to partial shade. Self-fertile but produces larger crops with a second plant nearby. Well-suited to edible landscapes, food forests, wildlife habitat gardens, and prairie-style plantings. Ships as a well-rooted young plant ready to establish quickly.
